A Novel Lightweight Robust Encryption and Authentication Protocol (LiREAP) for Securing In-vehicle Communications
A novel lightweight robust encryption and authentication protocol (LiREAP) that ensures confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity for the CAN network. Considering the security-performance tradeoff, the proposed protocol uses Ascon, a lightweight authenticated encryption cipher to achieve both confidentiality and integrity. It also uses a simple challenge-response mechanism for authentication. It provides robustness by generating and distributing session keys in a secure mechanism, requiring two factors of authentication. The protocol is to be tested in a CAN simulated environment.
