The Faculty of Language Studies (FLS) was established in 2002, at the very start of the Arab Open University (AOU). The College, as part of the AOU, is affiliated with the OU-UK, which validates, accredits, and assesses FLS education. At present, it offers a BA Programe (Hons) in English Language and Literature (ELL) in all AOU branches and a BA Programe (Hons) in English Language and Literature with Translation (ELLT) in three branches and soon in other branches. It also offers two MA programs: MA in English Literature
and
MA in TEFL.

Duration of the programe:
The duration of the BA programe is 4 years, 8 semesters and can be extended to 8 years, 16 semesters.
Method of Teaching:
The method of teaching in the BA is full time teaching (25%) and individual/blended learning 75%.
The Awards leading to an OU Certificate:

Certificate of Higher Education in English Language and Literature for students who have completed 120 credit points / 32 credit hours at level 1.

Diploma of Higher Education in English Language and Literature for students who have completed 240 credit points / 64 credit hours at level 1 and 2.

When completing
all programe requirements, (480/503 points/ 129/131 credit hours) students are awarded
a BA Honours in English Language and Literature ELL or ELLT – a dual degree: a Certificate from the AOU and a Certificate from the OU.

The duration of the MA programs is 2 years, 4 semesters and can be extended to 3 years, 6 semesters.
Method of Teaching:
The method of teaching in the MA is full time teaching (50%) and individual/blended learning 50%.
The Awards leading to an OU Certificate:

When students complete (16 credit hours), they get a Postgraduate Certificate in their major (OU).

32 credit hours, they are awarded a
Postgraduate Diploma in their major
(OU).

an MA in their major – a dual degree: A Certificate from the AOU and a Certificate from the OU.
