The Arab Open University (AOU) organized a workshop, entitled (the fourth strategic plan of the AOU 2017/2018-2021/2022) on 15 March 2017 under the patronage of Prof. Moudi Al-Humoud, President of the AOU. The workshop was attended by Prof. Mohammad Hamdan, Advisor of the AOU, Vice Presidents, Deans, Branch Directors, and a number of senior management staff.
Prof. Al-Humoud opened the workshop welcoming the attendees and valuing the achievements of the AOU and the efforts of its staff. In particular, she appreciated the efforts of the members of the Higher Committee for preparing the fourth strategic plan for the AOU (2017/2018-2021/2022). The Higher Committee role was to evaluate the performance of the previous strategic plan, prepare, and draft the fourth strategic plan for the AOU in coordination and cooperation with all directors and heads of the departments and the work sectors at the AOU headquarters and at the AOU branches.
Al-Humoud recalled the efforts of both Dr. Mohammad Ali Mirghani and Prof. Ahmad Majdoubah whose work at the university ended, wishing them the best in their life. After that, she presented the work stages of the Higher Committee and the series of meetings held by the Higher Committee with the AOU senior staff, faculty members, employees, and students of all the AOU branches. The purpose of these meetings was to engage them in preparing the plan and determining the goals and priorities of the AOU in academic, administrative, financial and technical areas. Al-Humoud also addressed the points of strengths, weaknesses, and challenges of the AOU and its partnership with the Open University in the UK, and with other international universities, and governmental and private institutes of training and development.
Then, the report of the AOU financial performance for the period from 01/09/2016 to 28/02/2017 and the semi-annual AOU report for the period from September 2016 to January 2017 were reviewed and discussed. In addition, the workshop observed a review and a discussion of a number of files, such as the latest developments of institutional re-accreditation and the academic programs, studies and reports on the best systematic practices for preparing a strategic plan for the AOU Oman branch, a study about employers’ satisfaction with university graduates, the academic committee recommendations, the higher committee recommendation on preparing the fourth strategic plan, which states the proposal of the plan is to be approved by the AOU Board in its 58th meeting and by the coming meeting of the AOU Board of Trustees.
